Notice To Municipalities

Before a tort claim can be filed against a municipality, proper notice must be given to the municipal government, within a certain amount of time of the occurrence of the tort. The notice requirement varies by municipality, ranging anywhere from 30 days to 6 months. The following municipalities are a representative sample.

  • Beaumont
  • 6 months
  • Fort Worth
  • 180 days
  • El Paso
  • 180 days
  • Corpus Christi
  • 180 days
  • Amarillo
  • 30 days
  • Lubbock
  • 30 days

Please note that these deadlines are subject to change. As such, efforts should always be made to put the municipality on notice of the claim as soon as possible.
