By Social Security Administration

Want More Information? PEBES is a valuable document that estimates your future Social Security benefits and tells you how to qualify for those benefits.

This service allows you to make a request for a PEBES with an online form.

Why should I request a PEBES? You will receive a response to your PEBES request by U.S. mail in 2-3 weeks. The PEBES response will include:

  • A complete earnings and Social Security tax history; and
  • Estimates of retirement, survivors, and disability benefits
Why can't I receive a PEBES response over the Internet? This service is available (Eastern Time):
Monday through Friday 8 AM - 9 PM

Saturday 9 AM - 4 PM Why isn't this service available all the time? To request a PEBES, you will need:
  • Your name
  • Your Social Security Number
  • Your date of birth
  • Your place of birth
  • Your mother's maiden name (to help identify you)

Is it safe to send this information over the Internet? Optional:

  • Your last years' earnings and an estimate of future earnings
  • Age at which you plan to stop work

Why doesn't Social Security already have my earnings information? Some words about security:

SSA takes numerous steps to keep your accounts and personal information secure, but you also play a role in maintaining the security of your information. Here's what you can do:

  • You may not always be at your own computer when you request a PEBES. Therefore, it's important to exit your browser when you're finished so that others cannot see the information that you have entered.
  • We recommend that you use the built-in security features that Web browsers provide. Choosing certain security settings and options will help protect the privacy of your personal information. Security settings on your browser vary depending on whether you are using a Netscape or Microsoft product and by version of these browsers. For more information consult the Help files of your browser software.

  • We are aware of a potential security problem as a result of a flaw in certain browsers that support the JavaScript language including Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.x and 4.0 for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 as well as Netscape Navigator 2.0 and 3.0 and Communicator 4.01 for all platforms.
How can I protect against the JavaScript security problem?

If you are not comfortable with sending information to us on the Internet, you may download the PEBES form (SSA-7004) and mail it to the address on the form.
