The National Football League failed to persuade the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York to stay its decision invalidating the league's eligibility rule for the NFL player draft. In doing so, the federal district court made running back Maurice Clarett eligible to participate in the 2004 draft.
The House of Representatives recently took on the task of examining whether or not there are serious antitrust problems involved with the College Football Bowl Championship Series system that could potentially exclude teams such as those in the Mid-American Conference from major bowl game participation. In particular, the House Judiciary oversight committee is currently reviewing the antitrust laws as they apply to college athletics.
