This article examines the reasoning behind current FAA visual flight rules, and the burden which adherence to such rules places on the recreational pilot. Although the FAA's VFR system serves to ensure the safety of the flying public, it relies most on the diligence of private pilots, who may not be the most skilled pilots in the skies.
